The Apex Learners ESAT Summer School combines live Mathematics 1 and Mathematics 2 teaching with diagnostic review, targeted practice, timed preparation and a structured Physics Companion. The programme is led by Andrew Sweatman, who has more than 20 years’ experience in education and has supported dozens of students in securing places at Oxford and Cambridge.

Students will leave with clearer methods, stronger exam technique and a structured plan for the final weeks before the test.

Week 1 — Foundations

Students establish their starting point and learn how to approach the ESAT effectively, including:

• ESAT structure and scoring;

• diagnostic review and identifying priorities;

• non-calculator fluency;

• pacing and question selection;

• the Recognise → Reduce → Protect framework.

 

Week 2 — Mathematics 1

Students work through carefully selected Mathematics 1 questions, learning how to:

• recognise recurring mathematical structures;

• choose efficient methods;

• reduce unnecessary working;

• avoid common errors;

• apply techniques under timed conditions.

 

Week 3 — Mathematics 2

Students apply the same approach to Mathematics 2, combining subject knowledge with speed, accuracy and effective decision-making.

 

Week 4 — Physics and final preparation

Students receive guidance on:

• using the Physics Companion;

• identifying and prioritising weaker Physics topics;

• planning independent Physics preparation;

• timing tactics and mock-test strategy;

• reviewing performance;

• creating a structured September revision plan.

Two-week intensive option

The two-week ESAT Summer School Intensive covers the same core programme and the same total live contact hours as the four-week course, but in a more concentrated timetable of six two-hour sessions. Students still complete the diagnostic review, Recognise → Reduce → Protect framework, Mathematics 1 and Mathematics 2 preparation, timed practice, Physics guidance and final revision planning, but over two weeks rather than four.
